Google I/O 2025: Gemini 2.0, AI-Powered Search, XR Glasses and 3D Video Tech Unveiled

Google's Mountain View HQ in California, US was the starting point for this year's I/O 2025 edition. The search engine announced new updates to its Gemini 2.0 Pro AI models, AI Mode and additional products. The company gave a glimpse of its new products, such as Android XR glasses and 3D video calling hardware.

Here are the key announcements from Google’s I/O 2025 developers conference.

The Gemini 2.0 Pro

Gemini 2.0 Pro is the strongest generative AI model on the market. It uses Google's newest research in thinking and reasoning, including parallel processing techniques. It is capable of processing questions are in text, image or voice forms. User can use voice, video and images to ask Gemini AI any question.

This technology solves complex math and coding just as well. User can use it in 24 languages and switch between them.

New powerful AI mode added to Google Search

Last year, Google announced AI mode to its search application. It can be found in a limited number of regions, ready to answer day to day queries.

Now, Google has now integrated Project Mariner’s intelligent agent features into AI Mode. Users can now let the AI handle things such as making restaurant reservations or booking tickets for upcoming sports games.

Using the fan-out technique, it can split a question into sub-topics and generate multiple related queries at once. Users enjoy the benefits of solving their problems or answering questions with very little effort.

As an example, a user might use their phone's AI Mode to purchase concert or sports tickets. It will show tickets that fit their exact criteria, and they can choose to buy from the site they like best. This approach saves time and allows users to always control what they buy.

AI Mode shopping lets users keep an eye on the price of products found online. With the auto-buy option on, the system will find the best sale items.

Users will get benefit of powerful research feature. It will be useful for students when completing their schoolwork. For difficult topics, it offers detailed reports that include complete sources in minutes.

Only those in the US can try it first, but AI mode will soon reach other regions. When it launches in India, cricket fans will definitely use the new AI mode to grab those hard-to-get IPL match tickets.

Gemini Live will soon feature Project Astra integration.

Gemini Live will soon be able to connect directly to Google Maps, Calendar, Tasks and Keep.

Google is launching Project Astra through Gemini Live, its conversational AI assistant. Project Astra, developed by the Google DeepMind team, uses advanced speech models. It was demonstrated at the I/O 2024 developer event. The voice assistant is clever enough to respond to complicated commands and have long conversations with users to accomplish several tasks efficiently.

Simply using user's phone's camera and scanning a landmark allows user to instantly see related information.

User can chat with Gemini Live to find out important information or get answers to user questions very quickly.

For example, if a phone owner is thinking of redecorating their bedroom, they might use Gemini Live, open the camera and point it at the room. It can suggest what to do with the items in the area to make it neat and organized.

Alternatively, students may aim the camera at math problems in their book and get help on how to solve them. The system will guide user through the process step by step when user use Gemini Live.

Introducing the all-new Imagen 4 and Veo 3.

The new generation of Imagen 4 is now available from Google as an image-generating tool. It is integrated with the Gemini AI app, so users can write a brief description for their image and the app will return a realistic image with good text and typography.

Google is launching the new Veo 3 video generator. This tool can create background sounds like city streets, birds singing in a park, and even conversations between characters.

Users in the U.S. with Ultra subscriptions can access Veo 3 in the Gemini app.

Google's AI cinema creation tool

The advanced Google Flow model uses all the strengths of Veo, Imagen and Gemini.

With the new tool, users can very easily embrace filmmaking and create cinematic content.

Users can describe a scene using natural language and easily control elements like the cast, locations, objects, and styles all in one simple place.

Based on the script, Flow creates stunning visuals for the film.

Flow is currently available to Google AI Pro and Ultra plan subscribers in the US, with more countries to be added soon.

It’s being added to the Google Meet video app. It can also translate conversations in real time while keeping the original voice, tone, and expressions.

Google is partnering with Zoom and HP to bring Google Beam to businesses. The first Google Beam devices from HP will be showcased at the InfoComm event next month (June 7-13) in Orlando, Florida, USA.

Android XR Glasses from Google

After putting smart glasses on hold nearly a decade ago, Google is getting involved in the smart wearables market again.

In contrast to the previous model, Google's new wearable is set to be more stylish, at the same level as Meta's Ray-Ban glasses.

Google is working alongside the South Korean eyewear company Gentle Monster and the US eyewear firm Warby Parker to introduce the latest smart wearable.

Just as Samsung is preparing Project Moohan, Google's new wearables will also use Android XR.

The glasses will include a camera, microphones, and speakers. These key parts will work together with a companion phone to give access to compatible apps. Message notifications will appear on the glasses, and users can reply instantly using dictation mode. The glasses will also have the Gemini AI assistant, which can show information for any questions.

At Google I/O 2025, the company showed real-life examples of how the new Android XR glasses can help with daily tasks like messaging friends, scheduling appointments, getting turn-by-turn directions, taking photos, and more.
